TILLANDSIA USNEOIDES

The Tillandsia Usneoides it is native to the forests of South / Central America. It is found on countless types of support: trees, shrubs, rocks and structures of various types. Present as an epiphyte on many plant species, such as on entire mountain walls of South America.
L'Usneoides it is also known as "Spanish moss" or "Moses' beard" due to its characteristic and long silvery mass. A curiosity about this particular plant: given its enormous diffusion, in the post-war period it was also used as a material for the padding of mattresses and car seats.

To be aware of the state of health of this species, care must be taken that it regularly emits new leaflets at the extremity or in the branches of each single "thread".

Air plants do not need to be grown in the ground, in fact a support is ideal for them (like ours MERLINO) that allow it to receive the right light and ventilation.

WATER | irrigations can be frequent, an immersion in a basin for about 1 minute is preferable to nebulization. Fast drying should be encouraged by hanging the tuft in an airy and well-lit place.

LIGHT | you must make sure that the tuft can take advantage of a sufficient amount of light for several hours a day. If kept inside the house it needs one a position not far from the window and no direct sun. It resists temperatures even over 28 ° but must be protected below 10 °.

TREATMENT | it needs good air circulation, it can be kept indoors in a basket or hanging from a shelf. Better if not leaned against the wall or hung with a stand. The part not exposed to the air dries up easily.

FLOWERING | the emission of flowers occurs along the threads, which are composed of a thin stem with small leaves inserted on it. F.originates discreetly but abundantly with tiny flowers between green and orange, a phenomenon much more common outdoors than at home.
